BENGALURU (BNS): BrahMos Aerospace, the producer of world's fastest and most powerful cruise missile BRAHMOS is highlighting its excellent achievements in defence indigenisation and key contributions to the 'Make in India' programme by showcasing some of the critical systems and sub-systems developed domestically at Aero India 2019 which began in Bengaluru today.
A finest product of India-Russia military technical cooperation, the formidable BRAHMOS has established its supremacy as the “ultimate weapon of choice” for the Indian Armed Forces and is successfully operational in the Army, Navy and Air Force.
The development of the powerful weapon system has resulted in the establishment of a vibrant Missile Industrial Consortium, both in India and Russia. In India, over 200 small, medium and large-scale defence sector entities are presently associated with the BRAHMOS programme and designing & delivering several key systems and sub-systems for the missile.
According to Dr. Sudhir Mishra, DS & DG (BrahMos), DRDO and CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace, “Our industry partners are our backbone. Their relentless support and cooperation has enabled us in timely production and delivery of the weapon and associated systems to our Armed Forces.”
“We are proud that we have successfully established a robust ecosystem of indigenous defence production and integration. BRAHMOS is an exemplary product of 'Make in India' and truly reflects its spirit,” said the BrahMos Chief.
Among the other technological highlights, it is the indigenously developed seeker which is on display at the Air Show.
A land-attack BRAHMOS variant with an indigenous seeker jointly developed by DRDO and BrahMos Aerospace was successfully test fired from the Pokhran test range in Rajasthan in March 2018 and hit the designated land target with "pin-point" accuracy.
This is the first time India has successfully developed the seeker system for a missile of this class and caliber.
