MOSCOW (BNS): Russia’s Rosoboronexport arms agency has signed two contracts worth $1.2 billion, for the delivery of 16 aircraft fighters for Algeria and six fighters for Uganda, a media report said.

According to RIA Novosti, both Algeria and Uganda will receive different models of Su-30 Flanker fighters. Algeria will receive 16 Su-30-MKI (A) s and Uganda will get six Su-30MK2s.

Recently, Russia has completed the delivery of Su-30MKA Flanker multi-role fighters to Algeria under a contract signed in 2006.

In 2008, Algeria returned 34 MiG-29 Fulcrum multi-role fighters to Russia because of flaws in design. The Russian military bought the rejects for its own use.

India has also bought various models of Su-30 Flankers from Russia. Till now, India has received 120 out of the 230 aircraft it has ordered. Malaysia has received 18 fighters overall.

Rosoboronexport has closed some $7.5 billion worth of arms export deals since the beginning of the year. According to the company's head, Anatoly Isaikin, Russia signed $15 billion worth of contracts during 2009, it said.
