BEIJING (BNS): China on Monday successfully orbited an experimental satellite on board its workhorse Long March rocket.

The satellite, Shijian-11-06, was launched by the Long March-2C rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China's Gansu Province on Monday morning.

Built by the China Spacesat Co. Ltd under the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, Shijian-11-06 will be used to conduct scientific experiments in space, the official Xinuha news agency said.

Steadily gaining its ground as a leading space faring nation, China at present orbits around 15 satellites every year even as it plans to increase the number further.
