STERLING HEIGHTS (BNS): US Army has awarded a $92 million contract to General Dynamics Land Systems for supplying high-performance Stabilized Commander’s Weapon Stations (SCWS) to the TACOM Lifecycle Management Command of the army.

The weapons station provides protection to the US Army and Marine corps vehicle commanders as it has the ability to acquire and engage targets from inside the armoured vehicle. It is designed to mount on a variety of military platforms and works with a high-performance .50-cal. machine gun, according to the General Dynamics news release.

The weapon station has targeting characteristics equal to those of the current M1A1 fire-control system and includes a laser range finder and thermal site.

The work on SCWS is expected to complete by February, 2013 in the existing General Dynamics Land Systems personnel in Lima, Ohio, Anniston, Alaska, and Sterling Heights, as reported in the release.

General Dynamics Land Systems plays an integral role in the US Army's core vehicle programmes, including the Abrams tank (M1A2 SEP upgrade and AIM), Stryker infantry combat vehicle and Fox NBC reconnaissance vehicle, and in its modernisation plan.
