Indian Navy's annual logistics conference begins

KOCHI (PTI): A two-day conference to review and discuss aspects pertaining to future logistics infrastructure requirements for higher operational tempo of the Navy began here on Monday.

The Annual Logistics Conference was inaugurated by Vice Admiral SPS Cheema, Commander-in-Chief Southern Naval Command.

Under the Chairmanship of Vice Admiral Jaywant Korde, Controller of Logistics, IHQ MOD(N), the conference will review and discuss aspects pertaining to future logistics infrastructure requirements, re-structuring of logistics and refinement of processes to provide responsive logistics for higher operational tempo, a statement issued by the Navy said.

The Indian Navy is a potent, multi-dimensional force whose role in protecting and promoting national security in the maritime domain remains pivotal, it said.

The Chief of Naval Staff vision document 2014 mandates a need to constantly review and refine its logistics support structures to ensure that its combat units and formations receive quality logistics support while maintaining a high operational tempo.

Through smooth and effective budget-management, it should endeavor to stretch every rupee to the maximum in ensuring that the frontline operations are backed robustly by a responsive and efficient operational logistics structure, the statement said.

Towards achieving the stated objectives and demands of an ever evolving force, the Indian Navy holds Annual Logistics Conference (ALC) which is attended by senior Logistics Officers in addition to Operational and Maintenance fraternity.

The annual event provides an important forum to take stock of past performances and also study proposals that have future relevance, it said.
