IRKUTSK (BNS): The Irkut Corporation of Russia is planning to sign a defence deal with Russian Air Force for the delivery of up to 40 Sukhoi Su-30 multirole fighters, according to media reports.

"We will sign a contract with the Defense Ministry next year," RIA Novosti quoted Irkut President Alexei Fyodorov as saying.

Under the contract conditions, the company will initially deliver 28 aircraft to the Russian Air Force and the additional 12 aircraft will be kept as an option.

The Su-30 Flanker-C is a twin-engine, two-seat multirole fighter for all-weather, air-to-air and air-to-surface missions.

Currently, Russia is operating four of these fighter aircraft, it said.
