Russian troops to take part in China's Victory Day parade


MOSCOW (BNS): Russia will send its military troops to take part in China's victory day parade celebrations to be held in September this year, Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu has said.

The Russian troops will participate in the Beijing victory parade devoted to the 70th anniversary of the World War II ending, the Minister announced on Sunday after a meeting with Chinese top military official Fan Changlong, a Sputnik news report said.

Changlong was in Moscow with a delegation headed by Chinese President Xi Jinping to take part in the celebrations devoted to the 70th anniversary of Russia's victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.

"We gladly accepted the invitation by the minister of defence of the People's Republic of China to take part in celebrations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of victory in World War II on September 3 this year.

"We agreed to send a subdivision of the Russian Armed Forces to the military parade," Shoigu said.

Russia displayed its military might on Saturday (May 9th) during a grand parade held at the iconic Red Square in Moscow to mark 70th anniversary of the country's victory over Nazi Germany, witnessed by many world leaders, including Indian President Pranab Mukherjee.

An Indian Army contingent as also that from China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) also took part in the parade which lasted for over 90 minutes.
