SEOUL (BNS): South Korea has completed development of a new high-altitude interceptor missile to counter North Korea's ballistic missiles.

The Agency for Defence Development (ADD) has completed the development of the medium-range Iron Hawk-II surface-to-air missile and plans to hold a launching ceremony on December 15, the Yonhap news agency reported.

The ADD announced the development of Iron Hawk-II in 2007.

The new missile can travel at 10 kilometers to 15 kilometers above ground. It is capable of attacking multiple targets with a single radar and has better accuracy than other ground-to-air guided weapons currently in operation, the news report said.

North Korea has deployed short-range Scud and Rodong missiles having a range of 1,300 kilometres. It has also test-launched thrice the longer-range Taepodong intercontinental missile.
