ABU DHABI (BNS): The UAE Navy has received Al Hili - the sixth and last of the Baynunah class corvette - from Abu Dhabi Ship Building Company.

The Baynunah Corvette Class Programme is one of the biggest warship construction programme implemented by the ADSB for the UAE Navy.

A Khaleej Times report said the handover ceremony last week was attended by Rear Admiral Ibrahim Al Musharrakh, Commander of the UAE Naval Forces and top navy officers.

The Baynunah Class Corvettes can be deployed for various missions, including coastal patrol and surveillance, mine detection and avoidance, helicopter operations, as well as anti-air and anti-surface capabilities.

It is equipped with the very latest in weapons and sensor technology.

The ships of this class have steel constructed hull and deck, with superstructure fabricated from aluminium. The superstructure arrangement is designed to minimise radar cross-section, the report said.
