WASHINGTON (BNS): US Army has awarded the Oshkosh Corporation a $41.4 million worth defence contract for the procurement of 60 Iraqi Heavy Equipment Transporter Systems (HETS) and associated ancillary items.

The Iraqi HETS are comprised of the M1070A0 tractor and the Fontaine 635NL trailer and the associated ancillary items include 6,240 spare tires; Iraqi HETS spare parts; nonstandard trailer manuals; and Iraqi HETS operator training, as reported by the US Department of Defense.

The company will perform the work at Oshkosh Corp.’s plant in Oshkosh, with an estimated completion date of 30th Sept, 2011.

The Heavy Equipment Transporter System (HETS) transports tanks and other heavy tracked and wheeled vehicles to and from the battlefield.

The Oshkosh Heavy Equipment Transporter (HET) is an advanced, hardworking and effective transport system which is designed to rapidly deploy battle tanks, fighting and recovery vehicles, or armored vehicles, construction equipment, and their crews so they arrive in mission-ready condition.

HETS has automatically steerable axles and load leveling hydraulic suspension. The tractor has front and rear axle steering with central tire inflation system and cab space for five crew members.
