SOUTH CAROLINA (BNS): US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) has awarded Force Protection, Inc. a $62.4 million defence contract for the procurement of 60 Buffalo Mine Protected Clearance Vehicles (MPCV).

According to Randy Hutcherson, Chief Operating Officer for Force Protection, Buffalo is a leader in route clearance missions and has saved untold number of lives over the last several years in combat operations.

"The Buffalo is highly successful and we are proud of its performance in Iraq and Afghanistan. We are looking forward to deliver these additional Buffalos over the coming months to the troops conducting vitally important missions," said Hutcherson, as per the company news release.

The work will be performed in Ladson, South Carolina and is expected to be completed prior to June 30, 2011. Deliveries of the vehicles are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010.

Buffalo MPCV has a 30-foot remote interrogator arm which allows for fast inspection of suspicious roadside or buried objects, while keeping the soldiers safely inside the vehicle.
