GROTON, CONNECTICUT (BNS): The US Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat two contracts worth $25.2 million to perform nuclear submarine and carrier maintenance and modernisation work.
Under the terms of the first contract, worth $15.4 million, Electric Boat will perform the planning, engineering and design, prefabrication and shipyard tasks required to complete a dry-docking continuous maintenance availability for the Los Angeles attack submarine USS Annapolis.
The work will take place at Electric Boat's Groton shipyard. It is scheduled for completion by December 2012.
Electric Boat also was awarded $9.8 million to support nuclear submarine and carrier repair work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington. This work is expected to be completed by October 2012.
